Way to go SHW!! We have 21 members who have volunteered to staff the Home Winemakers Exhibit at the California State Fair! Who-whoooo! This accounts for 14 shifts of 4 hours each and 56 hours of Exhibit Staffing. Awesome! The Fair is for 17 days, July 11-27.
The Fair kicked off at 11 am on Friday with Sandy Sakata holding down the fort for the 1st shift. We still have plenty of shifts for volunteers to talk with fair goers about home winemaking.
Attached are instructions on what you would do during your shift in addition to having fun. The exhibit includes a crusher/destemmer, press, corker, corks, empty wine bottles, a carboy with Chardonnay and an air lock, as well as 8-10 jars with sensory aromas that Rebecca and Tom Ramme put together. Fair goers will try and guess the aromas in the jar and then compare their answers with the master answer sheet.
You will be expected to field questions on the machinery and equipment on display as well as general wine making questions. Also, you can demonstrate how the corker works by putting a cork in a bottle. You would then remove the cork and let the fair goer try to cork the empty bottle. There will also be flyers at the booth that provide information on SHW.
We are located in a great location in Building “A” and just outside of the building are the wine garden and a great beer venue as well! There is also plenty of delicious food close by.
We have a few shifts over the next few days that we need coverage if anyone is interested:
Saturday July 12, from 10 am – 2 pm and 6 pm – 10 pm.
Sunday, July 13, from 10 am – 2 pm and 6 pm – 10 pm.
Tuesday, July 15, from 2 pm – 6 pm and 6 pm – 10 pm.
If the above dates and times don’t work for you, we also have a number of other shifts for other days. Please let me know what day and time I can sign you up for. Also, please call or email me if you have any questions.
Volunteers receive a complimentary admission and parking pass.
